Gadsden State Alumni Association News
In 2021, the Gadsden State Alumni Association awarded scholarships, honored employees and participated in college-wide activities, including Homecoming and commencements.
“We are honored to be able to further the success of dedicated Gadsden State students exhibiting the leadership skills and commitment to their future that are exemplary,” said Heather Brothers New, president of the Alumni Association.
Scholarships & Awards
In 2021, the Alumni Association was able to award two scholarships to deserving Gadsden State students.

Stephanie Hamby is majoring in general studies with a focus on Business Management. She will graduate following the 2022 spring semester and hopes to pursue a career in finance management and human resources.
Torance “Torie” Morgan is enrolled in the Surgical Operating Room Technology Program and will graduate in May 2022. After graduating, she plans to work as a surgical tech in an operating room.
The Alumni Association also recognized outstanding employees, alumni and supporters during its annual awards presentation. The awards were presented by New and Dr. Kathy Murphy, Gadsden State president.
Winners include Fay Scott, Outstanding Academic Faculty; Tarina VanNatta, Outstanding Technical Faculty; Tim Carter, Outstanding Support Staff; Kaycee Warsham, Distinguished Alumni; and Mark Condra, Distinguished Service Award. You can read more about the awards here.
Membership
The Alumni Association is always accepting applications for new members. There are three membership categories:
- Associate – Gadsden State faculty and staff, friends of Gadsden State and spouses of graduates
- Graduate – Individuals who have graduated with a certificate or a degree from programs at Gadsden State
- Regular – Current and former, full-time or part-time Gadsden State students
Membership for the Student Alumni Association Chapter is $10 a year. Once the student graduates, they will receive a one-year complimentary membership.
An annual membership is $20 per year with renewal in October while a Lifetime Membership is $300 (installment plans are available). Dues should be mailed to the Baisha Woody, Alumni Association treasurer, at P.O. Box 227, Gadsden, AL 35902.
Board Members
The Alumni Association is governed by its board of directors, which includes eight people. Executive board members are Heather New, president; Julie White, vice president; Baisha Woody, treasurer; and Tom McElrath, secretary. Board members are Melissa Davis, Brooke Davis, Christine Foster-Cates and Carrington Evans.
