A Message from Dr. Kathy Murphy
President of Gadsden State Community College
It has been a wonderful, challenging and exciting experience for me as the president of Gadsden State Community College. I have witnessed many achievements and successes. I have seen our students improve their lives through education and, as a result, I have seen our region strengthen and prosper. In this Annual Report, I look back on 2022 with appreciation for what was accomplished at Gadsden State, and I look forward to 2023-24 academic year with optimism and hope.
2022 signaled new beginnings for the College. We announced in April that we would reinstate softball and baseball in the fall of 2023. We will have seven athletic teams that will assist in recruiting students and providing them with a good collegiate experience.
In June, we introduced the very first apprenticeship class for registered nurses in the state of Alabama. Through the unique training program, our students receive the opportunity to grow their skills and competencies with one of six area registered employers.
In July, we shared the exciting news of the construction of a new Advanced Manufacturing and Workforce Skills Training Center that will forever impact our community, service area and the great state of Alabama. We hope to see the construction completed on our East Broad Campus in the spring of 2024.
In 2022, we announced a new program coming to our Valley Street Campus – Dental Assistant. The first cohort of Dental Assistant students started training in January 2023. We have plans to eventually add the Dental Hygiene Program as well.
The 2022 Annual Report details all of our College highlights, student success stories, accomplishments made by our employees and our valuable community partnerships. I hope you enjoy reading the good news that happened over the past year.
Thank you for your support and engagement as Gadsden State Community College continues to train and educate Alabama’s workforce.
