Gadsden State students named to All-Alabama Academic Team

Two Gadsden State Community College students were named to the All-Alabama Academic Team, a program of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.  Jasmine Adams and Anirban Biswas were honored at the All-Alabama Academic Team Recognition Luncheon at Ross Bridge Hotel and Spa in Birmingham.  They received $1,000 academic scholarship through the All-USA Academic Program.

All-Alabama Academic team members are nominated by the faculty and reviewed by a selection committee. To be eligible, students must have a 3.25 minimum grade point average, complete at least 12 hours at the nominating college and be involved in campus activities. Each community college in the Alabama Community College System nominates two students. The team nominees are also entered in the All-USA Academic team competition, which is sponsored by USA Today and Phi Theta Kappa.

Adams earned an associate degree at the May 2017 commencement ceremony, where she was a speaker. She is attending Troy University to earn a bachelor’s degree in elementary and collaborative education. At Gadsden State, she was an ambassador, president of the Inter-Club Council and vice president of the Student Government Association. She was a member of the Gadsden State Connects Team and was crowned Gadsden State’s Homecoming Queen. She was included in the Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. At Gadsden State’s Honors Day, she received the Outstanding Ambassador Award and the Outstanding SGA Member Award.
